Challenges in Sustainability (CiS) is pleased to announce a Special Issue entitled “Sustainability Transitions and Ecosystem Resilience: Governance Pathways, Institutional Innovation, and Societal Transformation”.

About the Special Issue

Climate change, ecological degradation, resource pressures, and social inequalities are creating increasingly interconnected sustainability challenges that require coordinated responses across technological, institutional, social, and ecological systems.

This Special Issue explores the mechanisms, strategies, and governance pathways that support sustainability transitions and strengthen ecosystem resilience. Particular attention is given to institutional innovation, adaptive capacity, resource stewardship, technological development, social inclusion, and evidence-based policymaking across diverse geographical and socio-economic contexts.

The Special Issue welcomes original research articles, review articles, and methodological contributions, including quantitative and qualitative studies, case studies, comparative research, modelling, and interdisciplinary studies.

This Special Issue provides an interdisciplinary platform connecting governance, technological, social, and ecological perspectives on sustainability transitions and ecosystem resilience. • Digital technologies, artificial intelligence, big data, and data-driven approaches for sustainability monitoring and decision-making

• Sustainable urban development, green infrastructure, and resilient community systems

• Social sustainability, equity, inclusion, and community participation in sustainability transitions

• Sustainable business models, corporate responsibility, and institutional practices supporting sustainability goals

• Biodiversity conservation, ecosystem restoration, and nature-based solutions

• Sustainability education, knowledge transformation, and behavioural change

Important Dates

• Submission deadline: December 31, 2026

• First-round review: Normally completed within four to six weeks after submission

• Revision period: Determined according to the reviewers’ comments

• Publication: Accepted papers will be published online on a rolling basis after peer review, revision, and production

Manuscripts should be submitted via https://submission.acadlore.com. During submission, authors should select the Special Issue “Sustainability Transitions and Ecosystem Resilience: Governance Pathways, Institutional Innovation, and Societal Transformation”. Manuscripts not assigned to this Special Issue may be considered as regular submissions.
