Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce the inaugural issue of the Journal of Soil and Rhizosphere Biotechnology (JSRB), an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to the study of soil and rhizosphere systems as functioning, interactive, and engineerable biological environments. The journal focuses on understanding, manipulating, and applying biological, chemical, and physical processes at the soil–root interface to develop biotechnological approaches relevant to ecosystem management, agriculture, and environmental sustainability.

JSRB views soil and rhizosphere ecosystems as dynamic systems shaped by interactions among plants, microorganisms, soil structure, nutrients, and environmental stressors. The journal particularly welcomes studies that investigate the rhizosphere as an integrated functional system, connecting biological processes across molecular, organismal, and ecological scales. Its main areas of interest include (i) characterization and regulation of microbial functions, (ii) modeling and engineering of plant–microbe–soil interactions, (iii) evaluation of biological interventions under realistic environmental conditions, and (iv) assessment of uncertainty, variability, and spatial heterogeneity in soil-based systems.

The journal recognizes that advances in soil and rhizosphere biotechnology can emerge from both innovative tools and the rigorous application of established experimental, analytical, and engineering methods. Studies using established approaches are therefore encouraged, provided that the investigated system is clearly defined, functional interpretations are convincing, and biological relevance is adequately demonstrated. Submissions should articulate a clear scientific or biotechnological rationale and explain how the findings contribute to functional understanding or practical applications. Manuscripts that are primarily descriptive or focus exclusively on site-specific observations without broader scientific relevance are generally outside the journal's scope.

At the intersection of soil science, microbiology, plant biology, biotechnology, and environmental sciences, JSRB provides a platform for interdisciplinary research and knowledge exchange. The journal welcomes original research articles, systematic reviews, conceptual analyses, and well-documented experimental, computational, and field-based studies that advance the understanding and practical application of soil and rhizosphere systems.

JSRB provides unrestricted access to published articles worldwide under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license, which permits sharing and reuse with appropriate attribution, while copyright remains with the authors. The journal applies a structured peer-review process emphasizing methodological transparency, research quality, reproducibility, and clarity in system definition. JSRB maintains rigorous editorial and peer-review standards to ensure appropriate scientific evaluation and quality control.

We warmly invite researchers, academics, and professionals worldwide to submit their original contributions and participate in the development of soil and rhizosphere biotechnology. We look forward to building an international platform that encourages interdisciplinary collaboration, advances scientific understanding, and promotes innovative biotechnological solutions for sustainable agriculture and environmental management.

Sincerely,

Allah Ditta, PhD
